The ASO (Ankle Stabilizer Orthosis) with Plastic Stays has all the same great patented features of the regular ASO lace-up ankle brace along with the addition of medial and lateral plastic side support stays. The plastic stay inserts enhance the treatment of ankle sprains by providing support to the ankle after a sprain. The support stays are securely held in place yet removable when no longer needed after the initial acute ankle injury period. The ASO Ankle Brace with Plastic Stays is indicated for anyone with a recent sprain or who desires more support than the standard ASO Brace offers. It offers protection after inversion or eversion ankle sprains, as well as a high level of support for those who suffer from repeated chronic ankle sprains, or medial or lateral ankle instability and wants to guard against further ankle injury.
Features & Benefits:
Each ankle brace is sold separately, the package contains 1 ankle brace. Brace will fit either the left or right ankle. The ASO with plastic stays is available in black or white and sizes X-Small to XX-Large. The ASO with Plastic Stays can be machine washed on a gentle cycle, with no bleach and air-dried.
For the best fit and support of your new ankle brace, please follow the following sizing information.
Measure your ankle circumference using a flexible tape measure and using the picture as a guide. Measure the circumference from the top of your ankle around to your heel then find your size using the chart below.
If you are in-between two sizes, remember that ankle braces are designed for a snug supportive fit and you most likely would gain more support from the smaller sized brace.
|ASO Brace Size||Ankle Circumference in Inches||Ankle Circumference in cm|
|X-Small||10 to 11"||25.5 to 27.9 cm|
|Small||11 to 12"||28.0 to 30.5 cm|
|Medium||12 to 13"||30.6 to 33.0 cm|
|Large||13 to 14"||33.1 to 35.6 cm|
|X-Large||14 to 15"||35.7 to 38.1 cm|
|XX-Large||15 to 16"||38.2 to 40.6 cm|
As an alternate method of sizing, you may use your shoe size. Use the following shoe size table as a guide only, as the best brace fit will occur using the ankle circumference measurements above.
|Men's Shoe Size||6 to 7||7.5 to 9||9.5 to 11||11.5 to 13||13.5 to 15||15+|
|Women's Shoe Size||5 to 6||6.5 to 8||8.5 to 10||10.5 to 12||12.5 to 14|
Q. My son sprained his ankle playing basketball 2 weeks ago and the athletic trainer recommends that he has an ASO Ankle Brace to return to play. Is this a good brace for basketball after his injury?
A. Yes, we usually recommend using the ASO w/ Plastic Stays after a recent injury or for those with chronically weak ankles. This brace provides more support than the standard ASO brace after an injury. As the injury recovers and stability and strength increases in the ankle, the stays can be removed, essentially turning the support into a standard ASO Ankle Brace.
